Lucas takes his Epic for a spin for the recently launched Thredbo 365 campaign, allowing us to finally flesh out the "Dirt vs Snow" concept.
After filming a number of the locations plates with Thredbo local Mountain Bikers Timmy Windshuttle & Daniel Taliana, Tim and Lucas waited a few months for the snow to fall in order to recreate the same camera angles for the skiing and snowboarding overlay scenes... Admittedly it seemed like a no worries kind of shoot in theory, but deep 2 meter wind drifts (being Australia, we didn't account for that much snow) in some of the locations meant the camera was almost sitting right on top of the snow-pack.
In total we shot about 18 summer mountain bike plates, then tried to replicate about 12 of those during the winter (some were obviously not worth shooting a second time). Chris then made composites of 10 overlays which we had to choose from in the final edit.
Of course this isn't the first time the seasons have been blended... It would be remiss of us not to mention "The Group Shred" 2011 segment from Sherpas Cinema:
