The Crown Range lies to the east of the Wakatipu Basin in Otago, New Zealand. It is noted for two features, the Cardrona Alpine Resort, on the slopes of the 1900m Mount Cardrona, and a highway, known as the Crown Range Road (formerly State Highway 89), which winds steeply between Arrow Junction, just south of Arrowtown, and Wanaka to the north. It was up this road where we'd heading with a convey of BMW's newest xDrive and a lens by Fujinon worth almost as much.

Nine's Wide World of Sport snagged an invitation to put host Grant Hackett behind the wheel of his choice of BMW (he cycled through the X1, X3, X4, X5, X6 and the GT) in one of the most breath-taking locations in the world. This was the perfect opportunity to engage high frame rates on the Sony F5.

The new Sony F5 performed magnificently in the cold weather, often below zero up in the range, with no evidence of internal moisture or fog and condensation on any of the lens glass as previously experienced with larger ENG camera's in alpine environments.
